David Butterfield died on November 18, 2018. He was an artist. A painter, musician, writer, photographer. He was an autodidact and a polymath. An extraordinary talent. He was hilarious and brilliant and kind. He was a truly good person. He was my dad. He just turned 70 and there were so many things he still wanted to do. Death comes for us all, but it came for him too soon and we were not ready to lose him. I don’t really know what else to say about it. Our family is devastated. I am devastated. The world was a better place with him in it and now he’s gone. I want to write a million words about what a unique and beautiful person he was, but nothing I write will ever adequately describe him -his life, his accomplishments, his spirit- or convey how profoundly sorry I am that he is no longer here. Anyone who knew him during his time on earth should consider themselves fortunate and nobody is more fortunate than me in this respect. He was the most wonderful father and I am forever grateful to have had him in my life.
